On-the-Bike Skills 201 is the second level of mountain bike skills instruction for NICA coaches of student-athletes. On-the-Bike Skills 101 provides insight to help coaches provide fundamental skills instruction, manage a practice, and lead team rides. On-the-Bike Skills 201 continues with progressive skill development and further resources for coaches to manage more advanced practice activities for growing teams. The key objectives for this training are:
- Reinforce effective teaching methodology and skills instruction techniques; » Introduce progressive skills required by riders of varying age, maturation, ability level, and goals;
- Provide the coach with practice activities to reinforce student-athlete skill development; and
- Facilitate the creation and use of a progressive practice plan for student-athlete skills development and team activities.

This is a 1-day, 8 hour course to satisfy your level 3 coaching requirements.
The Nevada League has scheduled a NICA approved Wilderness First Aid/CPR/AED course November 7th. This is a 1-day course and is highly recommended for Coaches and Ride Leaders and is a prerequisite for NICA Level 3. The course covers treating backcountry type injuries and illnesses and includes your CPR certification. Participants should dress comfortable and bring lunch. Cost is $105.
STATE AND LOCAL JURISDICTIONS REQUIRE THAT MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING BE MAINTAINED.
Bring water, lunch and snacks. Course will be indoors.

On-the-Bike Skills 101 – Coaches learn the progressive steps needed to teach both basic and advanced mountain biking skills, experiential teaching techniques, how to accommodate different learning styles and how to create a positive learning environment for young riders. Taught by NICA-certified skills trainers. Required for coach license Level 2 and Level 3.
This course will be completed in 2 phase: Online via NICA Pit Zone (3 hours) and In-Person for 3 hours at Mesa Park, Las Vegas, NV. You must complete both for full credit, preferably online prior to the In-Person Course. WORKING MOUNTAIN BIKES AND HELMETS ARE REQUIRED. Dress appropriately, this is an instructional course and not a “ride”. Bring your own food and water, there are restrooms available.
Once you complete OTB 101 you are not required to complete it again, however you will receive CEUs towards your current license status.

Who:
All Women interested in getting more girls on bikes. This includes all current female Nevada South coaches, prospective coaches, Mom’s of student-athletes, and women interested in learning more about becoming involved with the Nevada South NICA League.
Experience Level:
None needed. Only a passion for empowering girls through club sport (middle and high school mountain biking)
What (Mission Of Event):
To create a culture and community of women leaders in the S. Nevada league with the ultimate goal of recruiting more girls and getting more girls on bikes. No skills necessary. We will teach you how to ride and coach.
Objectives:
Attendees will know their fellow GRiT coaches and understand their role in helping get more girls on bikes
Attendees will leave empowered and with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to implement GRiT programming within their own teams
Attendees will feel empowered, capable and confident as a coach
What to bring (be prepared to ride and gather in an outdoor setting):
Mountain bike and helmet and water bottle or hydration pack
Appropriate clothing to be comfortable outdoors
Lunch and refreshments will be provided

The Wilderness First Aid Course will meet all requirements outlined by NICA for the WFA NICA approved certification, which will include Patient Assessment and Movement, as well as Managing Major Trauma, Wounds, and Musculoskeletal Injuries. We will also devote time to Common Medical and Environmental Problems, particularly those relevant to Cycling Coaches and Leaders.
While we’ll cover the full spectrum of required topics, there will be an emphasis on simple strategies for handling common problems. There will be time for questions and discussion in the highly interactive learning environment. Significant time will also be devoted to hands-on practice, scenarios, and case studies to help ingrain knowledge gained during lecture.
NICA Approved WFA, First Aid and CPR/AED course on Saturday January 22nd, 2022 at 8am.
This course will fulfill the requirement to become a Level 2 coach if you are practicing within one hour of definitive care.
